This morning, my brother, who has been incarcerated for the past 20 years, graduated with not one, but two Associate’s degrees—one in Social and Behavioral Studies and another in American Studies. I sat there, emotional and proud, as I listened to him deliver a truly moving speech. It was powerful proof that a person is not defined by their mistakes or the walls that confine them.
