The Issue

My name is Vardan Abramyan, and I am writing to share my story of the past 19 years, as well as to seek your support as I prepare to file for a commutation of my (LWOP) life without parole sentence. I am NOT asking for donations, just signatures and shares.  Nearly two decades ago, I made a terrible decision that resulted in the loss of my father’s life. At the age of 19, I was caught in a web of physical and emotional abuse in my home, which led to my tragic actions. I am now 37 years old. I have spent years reflecting on my past, confronting my trauma, and understanding the depth of my wrongdoing. I take full responsibility for my actions and recognize the pain and destruction I have caused my family and loved ones. During my time of incarceration, I have committed myself to personal growth and development. I am proud to say that I am graduating this year with multiple Associate Degrees in Human and Social Behavior, as well as in American Studies. I have also facilitated various groups focused on self-discovery and healing, which have been transformative experiences for both myself and others.  My mother and sisters have been my pillars of strength throughout the years and their unwavering support has motivated me to become a better person. Alongside them, the love and loyalty of my partner has given me hope and the determination to continue striving for change. I aspire to come home, reconnect with my family, and be a positive presence in the lives of my nieces and nephews. I am driven to give back to my community and use my experiences as a lesson for today’s youth, hoping to guide them away from paths that lead to despair. I would like to ask for your support as I present my case to Governor Newsom, demonstrating that I am no longer the lost individual I once was. I recognize the magnitude of my previous actions and am committed to living a meaningful, responsible life moving forward. Thank you for taking the time to listen to my story. Your support in this challenging journey means the world to me and reinforces my dedication to making amends. Sincerely,
Vardan Abramyan
