SeaWorld: NECROPSY of TILIKUM must be made PUBLIC !
This petition had 7,028 supporters
Necropsy of deceased wild animal species is essential to conservation and research endeavors. Oceanic mammals of key interest include the orca, or "killer whale".
Tilikum, the famous captive orca who recently died at SeaWorld, was presented to the public as "education" for over 31 years, and was regularly described as an ambassador for wild orcas of the sea, from which the public could learn more about the species.
Now that he has passed, members of the public wish to learn the particulars of Tilikum's end of life. The necropsy to be performed will complete what he has to offer the world. Scientific findings are highly important to environmental researchers, marine ecology students, and SeaWorld's own vast customer base. Critical biological findings should not be limited to employees and others directly connected to SeaWorld.
Therefore, we, the undersigned, request that SeaWorld make Tilikum's necropsy report available to the public upon its completion. Transparency re a necropsy was once a federal requirement in the US. We now ask you to provide it voluntarily in our mutual interest to further marine mammal education and an understanding of orca physiology and pathology, as well as ongoing conservation efforts.
Thank you for addressing this important public request for the full release of the necropsy report for Tilikum.
