Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT): Install a traffic circle at the intersection of 41st Ave SW & SW 104th St
Hi Arbor Heights Neighbors,
Would you help improve pedestrian and traffic safety in our neighborhood by e-signing a petition to install a traffic circle at the intersection of 41st Ave SW and SW 104th Street in Arbor Heights?
You may best know this intersection as the base of the winter time sledding hill on SW 104th Street 3 blocks west of Arbor Heights Elementary school. This hill is part of what makes this intersection so dangerous, especially for dog walkers and children walking to school. Cars slow down for the traffic circle at the top of the hill (42 Ave SW and SW 104th Street) but then gather momentum and speed going down the hill and rarely slow down at the intersection at the bottom of the hill. I've written to the Seattle department of Transportation (SDOT-13-00032920) and Mayor McGinn's office (Case #00029065) to request a traffic circle and a key element for success is to galvanize community support.
You may remember the horrible multiple injury crash that happened at this intersection last October (See West Seattle Blog story: http://ww.w.westseattleblog.com/2012/10/at-least-2-hurt-in-arbor-heights-crash). Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident. I've lived in the area for over a decade and have witnessed multiple crashes and countless near misses. Some drivers, especially those new to Arbor Heights, just don't seem to realize that this intersection is uncontrolled.
Please show your support by e-signing the petition. My hope is that we can get a traffic circle installed at this intersection before anyone else gets hurt.
