Community Petition for the Redevelopment of 607 2nd Ave N (also known as the “K Block”)  Seattle City Council Bill #119186

We urge the City of Seattle Office of Housing Department to include in its Request for Proposal (RFP) a mandate for affordable housing and related ground floor commercial space for arts and cultural workers and businesses. 

This mandate supports:

• Ordinance 120106: Kreielsheimer Foundation’s desire for ”open space improvement to enhance the Seattle Center Theater District . . .”
• Uptown Urban Design Framework (UDF):  “Uptown continues to expand the type and number of housing choices in order to meet the growing demand for . . . Its local arts and culture workforce” 
• Arena Community Advisory Group Guiding Principles: “. . . Given the signature character of arts and culture in Uptown, and thriving music and nightlife scenes in Belltown, investments in housing  . . . should support housing opportunities for creatives within proximity of the Seattle Center . . .”
• KeyArena MOU: “City’s broader initiatives to provide affordable housing to Seattle residents, including local artists and musicians who are often disproportionately impacted by rising housing prices."
