Save the Therapy Pool at Seattle Children's Hospital

Save the Therapy Pool at Seattle Children's Hospital

The Issue

Please help save the Therapy Pool at Seattle Children's Hospital! This facility is the only warm water pediatric therapy pool in the entire region, yet current leaders at Seattle Children's have abruptly decided to permanently close the Therapy Pool effective August 2020. Hospital leadership made this decision without any fundraising attempts and without consulting any of the families who will lose access to the pool's invaluable services.

This closure will create a major void of care in our community for countless disabled children and families. No other pool specializes in adapted aquatic therapy, or comes outfitted with the different lifts children with limited mobility require to simply enjoy their swimming experience. For many of these kids, time in the warm water is their only chance to freely move without pain or discomfort, a treasured freedom they will lose if the pool closes permanently.

In addition to providing treatment for the disabled, the Therapy Pool serves as a highlight for many young patients and families during their time at Seattle Children's. It's a unique place that helps ease the stress and monotony of staying in the hospital and creates a relaxing, safe haven for kids. This little oasis within the hospital's walls will disappear if SC's leadership moves forward with their drastic decision.

Please make the hospital's leadership reconsider this misguided choice. Please help them understand the life-altering consequences this closure will have for so many people. Please don't allow the permanent closure of the Therapy Pool to make 2020 even worse for vulnerable children and families.

You can also email Children's CEO Jeff Sperring at jeff.sperring@seattlechildrens.org to voice your concern, or email your personal story to saveourtherapypool@gmail.com to help prevent this closure.
