The recent wildfires in places like Tintwistle, Dovestones and Conwy have been devastating to watch. Every year we seem to see more of our countryside destroyed because of completely preventable fires, and every year we promise to learn from it. Yet it keeps happening.

I'm not asking for a blanket ban on fireworks or for people to stop celebrating the occasions that matter to them. Fireworks are part of many traditions and cultural celebrations throughout the year. What I'm asking for is a sensible review of how and when they can be sold, so they're less readily available for random, irresponsible use that puts lives, wildlife and communities at risk.

Disposable BBQs and fireworks used during hot, dry weather put far more than just moorland at risk. They destroy wildlife habitats, kill and injure animals that can't escape the flames, threaten livestock, damage farmland, put people's homes and businesses in danger, and force firefighters and other emergency services to risk their own safety tackling fires that should never have started. They also cost taxpayers millions of pounds every year.

As our summers become hotter and drier, wildfires are becoming more frequent across the UK. We need our laws to reflect that reality.

I'm calling on the UK Government to:

- Ban the sale of disposable BBQs.
- Review and restrict the sale of fireworks so they remain available for genuine celebrations but are less accessible for casual, year-round use.

This isn't about taking away traditions or spoiling anyone's celebrations. It's about reducing unnecessary risks and protecting the places we all share.

If these changes prevent even one major wildfire, save one family's home, protect one farm, or spare our firefighters from battling another avoidable blaze, they'll have been worth it.
