We the Fish Harvesters, Plant Workers, Monitors, Graders, Truck Drivers of Newfoundland and Labrador would like to petition for the closure of the 2020 fishery because of the Covid-19 pandemic. We do not want this virus to get out of hand. We feel that these are not essential. Most products from the fishery are considered a luxury not a necessity . To put all of these people at risk before the curve is flattened would be a detrimental mistake which will lead to unnecessary deaths among our Communities. All it takes is one person to get this virus in a plant the product will be destroyed plant will close because no one to process it. What Then? There are only so many plants to work with.If you bring this home and one of your family members get sick whether they be young or old and die who will be responsible. . Yes we would all like to go back to work but you can't put a price on human lives.
