Given the recent discovery of two men with disabilities living with a dead person for two weeks in Campbell River, the deaths of individuals in home shares, and the recent BC Attorney General's report on the issues with monitoring agencies and homes, it is clear that we provide the backbone of quality care for people with developmental disabilities.
Many home shares are great, and the people are dedicated, but there are not enough, they are poorly compensated, our loved ones are underfunded, and we have highly specialised skills. CLBC SHOULD be monitoring placements, and we are just as easy to monitor as an agency. Plus, we just want a fair wage, not to make millions like for-profit care providers.
