While the world is going gaga over the environmental and health benefits of cycling, Mussoorie seems to be taking several steps backwards in this area. In an abrupt decision apparently taken a few days ago, the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) of Mussoorie in consultation with the local police and municipal council, has decided to ban cycles on the mall road.

I can only think of positives from cycling and these authorities say that cycling is creating a nuisance on the Mall road. What about the cars/ two-wheelers who zip along the Mall Road all day?

Although these cyclists are only contributing to a greener environment for which everyone is equally responsible.

We would also like to urge the locals to start cycling as a means of daily commute and not let cycling be a mere tourist attraction. Wake up Mussoorie, it's now or never.

We need to urge the administration to take this order back at the earliest.

Go green, go cycling!
