Gina Mulcahy started this petition to Scratch Team

As of today, 7/6/21, the scratch.mit.edu layout has changed from the past layout the website had for over 6 years. it was calming, familiar, sound, not overwhelming. that all changed with the new UI. it seriously bothers some neurodiverse scratchers, gives neurotypical scratchers headaches, and takes away many of the parts of the former scratch studio UI that scratchers enjoyed. taking away the follower count is problematic because it takes away the ability to see how large a studio was, it takes away the changing of the description which is a major problem because many large studios have inactive owners, and it is so noisy, glitchy, and takes away the fun and charm of scratch.

Nobody on Scratch asked for this change, and everybody is unhappy with it. The Scratch Team has a reputation of not listening to its' users' feedback, and we will not let this one slide.

As @fluffydogs12345 says,

I really don't like the new update, or how it was handled. Neither do most of the people here.

First off, the UI is not only bad, it is triggering. It's triggering for me, for others and anyone with visual sensory or anything of that sort. Its just too big and its hard to look at. Plus it's really hard for a lot of people to use. Not very inclusive, which is a priority here iirc. Not very cash money of you, ST.

Second, Managers now have no purpose. They are all saying ‘why are we here, just to suffer?’ rn. The purpose of a manager was to be able to edit the desc, title, and thumbnail. They were like co owners. They are almost always trusted by the creator, but you took that away. Now, some many studios will suffer. I know there are a few like the LGBT gaehive, and a studio for connecting and learning about Judaism. Connecting and learning is the goal on this site, right? Well, not if your studio creator matured and moved on.

Third, Thread limits. You are shortening our discussions now too. Scratch is full of long thoughtful threads and roleplays. Now roleplays are going to be through the roof, making MORE difficult to navigate. So many other communites needed long threads too, like discussions on serious topics, like fighting racism. Now we can't have those with ease, thanks!

Fourth, Studio invites. Sure it'll reduce spam, but what about announcements and such. Not helpful. Oh and the limit is ridiculous, 40 is not enough for many studios, but seems like those will die anyway.

Fifth, Creating a new studio is not helpful, and a bit insensitive as to why people don't want to. Many studios have history, which would be lost if a new studio were created. Not a solution for most.

Lastly, No one knew this was happening. There was no beta, or even announcement for it, it just happened. That really bothers me. No one had time to read up or prepare.

I just find this update to be more damaging when nothing was wrong in the first place.  Many scratchers are already discussing leaving the site and going somewhere else, but there are no other sites that are kid-friendly like this. Please consider going back.
