The Issue

My name is liz and i am a mother to four children. I am advocating for our children’s rights at school. Scrap the toilet pass and give our children back a basic human right. Throughout schools across the uk children at school are being stopped from using the toilet. Schools have introduced a ‘toilet pass’ which allows that child to have special permission to go to the toilet. School have also asked parents for proof of medical conditions to be able to have this privilege. Children are more vulnerable to urinary tract infections when being made to hold in their urine for long periods of time on a daily basis. Girls of puberty age are being stopped from using the toilet to change their sanitary products and as a result are being humiliated in-front of their classmates. Some children have also wet themselves in class as a result, If a child walks out of a lesson despite asking to go to the toilet they are being issued with detention or similar punishment. A toilet pass is not law, not policy and not a rule that can be enforced. Us as parents never signed any paperwork for us to agree to this rule. Toilets are being locked during lesson times and as a result this is causing distress amongst students who are too afraid to speak up. Scrap the toilet pass and give our children back the freedom to use the toilet when ever needed.
