The Issue

The proposed increase in parking charges in Northampton is a matter that hits close to home for both our businesses and residents. As someone who lives and works here, I am deeply concerned about the impact these changes will have on our town. Businesses, the lifeblood of our local economy, will suffer significantly. Higher parking fees mean fewer customers willing to visit the town due to increased costs, leading to a potential loss in revenue. This WILL push businesses to close, which in turn will affect employment rates and the overall vibrancy of our town.

This is yet ANOTHER tax increase on us all!

Residents, We, who already feel the pinch of daily expenses, WILL face increased financial strain. Many of us rely on parking for their daily commutes and errands, and an increase in parking charges could make these necessary activities financially unbearable. It's not just about the additional cost; it’s about making our town less accessible to those who live here and wish for its prosperity and success!

Those who struggle to get out, namely the Disabled, will have their free parking revoked, leading to further struggle to their lives! Even being Disabled in Northampton will cost more than elsewhere!

Moreover, there’s a risk that these parking hikes could lead to a further deterioration of our town. With less foot traffic, local markets and cultural events that depend on visitors will suffer, reducing the community feel and appeal of Northampton. This proposal, put forward without sufficient community consultation, fails to consider the long-term consequences on the local economy and community well-being.

Town is already looking run-down, this will KILL it! HOW is it fair that Daventry, Towcester, and Brackley get free parking whereas Northampton will bear the brunt of this? Our businesses will DIE due to this decision to increase the parking charges!

Many studies show that town centres thrive when they are easily accessible and welcoming. Instead of increasing parking charges, we should explore alternative solutions that encourage visitors and support businesses. Lower parking fees or even free parking periods could prove beneficial in attracting more visitors, enhancing customer satisfaction, and boosting local trade.

The voices of our community must be heard. It is crucial for local reforms to reflect the needs and desires of its people. If we act together, we can urge local authorities to reconsider this decision and choose a path that supports both our residents and businesses.

Sign this petition to stand against the proposed parking charge increases in Northampton. Together, we can make a difference and protect our beloved town’s future.
