Scrap BTP’s 2-Hour Bike Theft Policy

The Issue

Cyclists across the UK are left unprotected as police refuse to investigate thefts if the bike has been parked for more than 2 hours.

Yes this is now UK Police Policy!

Across the UK, cyclists are being left unprotected by a shocking British Transport Police policy: if your bike has been parked for more than 2 hours, they won’t investigate its theft.

This effectively gives thieves a green light to steal bikes from stations in broad daylight, even from so-called “secure” storage under CCTV. Every commuter who leaves a bike at a station during the day is at risk, with criminals knowing there will be no investigation.

We demand that the BTP scrap this policy immediately, investigate all reported bike thefts on railway land, and use CCTV evidence to hold thieves accountable.

Cycling should be safe, sustainable, and supported; not an open invitation to criminals!

Sign now to protect cyclists across the UK.
