Reconsider Your Decision On Gosforth School Crossing Patrols

The Issue

Newcastle City Council have voted to scrap most of the school crossing patrols in the city.  An authority who can afford significant pay rises for senior officials but can't afford to keep the school crossing patrols, an essential resource in our community that protects children's lives.

It was brought to the attention of Gosforth Traffic, by residents, that one such crossing patrol at Broadway East is manned by a gentleman called Jim, someone who is much loved in our community and residents are horrified that their children may be put in danger from the loss of this service. We also know of another lollipop man called Peter on Christon Road who will also be a huge loss to this community.

Gosforth Traffic is committed to highlighting issues like this and we speak on behalf of our local residents.  We would like Newcastle City Council to reconsider this action and we feel that they misjudged the mood of local people over this issue.  We all understand that the council has had to make cuts to services but when they award themselves pay rises and then cut the staff at the bottom end of the pay scale, losing vital resources, then it's simple........... they lose vital support.

We would like the Chief Executive and Leader of the Council to reconsider this unpopular decision and take another look at the school crossing patrol service in Gosforth.
