Keep Camp Lone Cloud NS Open for the Summer of 2015!
The Issue
HQ is closing CLC this summer based on low early registration numbers. As
the group commissioner for 1st HP, I have been receiving phone calls all
weekend from upset parents as this news is slowly got out. This morning HQ
informed me they are willing to consider options. The best option is to
increase registration so I have sent the below email to all my parents in
HP. Please do the same!!!
“If you or your friends are planning to register your youth for a Camp Lone
Cloud event this summer you need to register now. Early registration numbers
are very low and the Provincial Headquarters is planning to cancel the
entire summer camp season.
This camp has been operating since 1951, it provides safe and fun co-ed week
long camp for scouters and non-scouts alike. It’s ideally located on Millers
Lake and is the highest rated local summer camp for fun and enjoyment by
campers based on an independent online summer camp survey web page.
It would be a great loss to our community if this camp closes. Please don t
procrastination any longer. If you are committed to register but just can’t
register for some reason right now please email me your intentions.”
My thoughts as a local scouter are as follows:
CLC is a local land mark; it is the face of scouting to the majority of HRM
residents. Every summer the presents of it camps illustrate our continued
presents and offers of service within the community, and its present’s aids
with recruiting and retention across HRM. Its programs mirror our national
organizations key mission of build youth into leaders, it provides the
needed depth to solidify our normal n-house programs. Evident of CLC ability
to create caring and able leaders in our community is present in the many
leaders and youth leaders we have today that one attended this historic
institution. CLC program offers us a very unique means of reaching and
teaching individuals outside our scouting community, and this ability has
been a key illustration that NS scouting is committed to the education and
wellbeing of all youth in the community.
