SCOTUS Term Limits

SCOTUS Term Limits
Why this petition matters

Too often we see those on the High Court depart from their original reasons for being in such a court. Other times, we see a vacant seat become a political tool which the two parties use to sway voters in one direction - or another. This is counter to what the judicial branch of government was created for - the testing of the law and its Constitutional validity. We need a way to keep those who serve on it in check, and to remind them, that their legacy will be predicated on how they serve.
Here we go then:
We the undersigned feel that no office shall hold more terms than that of the President. In this, we feel:
1. Whereas, a Supreme Court Justice shall be restricted to just two terms of service;
2. Whereas, each term is set at five years;
3. Whereas, the President of the United States will decide if a Supreme Court Justice shall continue to serve at the end of their first term;
4. Whereas, the President of the United States shall retain the right of selection of vacant seats;
5. Whereas, the Congress of the United States shall retain the right of confirmation of candidate selected by the President;
6. Whereas, a staggering set time shall be established so that no more than half of any vacant seats will come up at any given time.
We call upon Congress to enact a set of legislation and necessary amendments to the Constitution to further prevent a decay of trust with the public on issues that affect us on a daily basis.
