Why this petition matters

Started by S. Woods

The Town of Scottsville is considering for approval two large-scale housing developments in areas recently rezoned to village residential. Together the proposals allow for 72 houses to be built on Bird Street and on Blenheim Road by special use permit.

Citizens have voiced various reasons for concerns including:

  • The proposed density of the developments
  • Environmental considerations like:  ▪︎The disturbance to the Mink Creek watershed area ▪︎Storm water runoff ▪︎Flood control ▪︎The use of non-native plants in landscaping
  • Increased traffic congestion on roadways
  • Pedestrian safety
  • Parking issues
  • Affordability
  • and much more...

We are a group of concerned citizens who wish to advocate for responsible development.

We believe responsible development means the difference between being proactive and reacting after the fact.

We feel the town should deny the special use permits until these concerns from citizens, both those inside the town limits and those outside the corporate lines, are taken into account and addressed.

Considering all the items listed above, we feel these proposals do not fulfill the key goals listed in the town’s own comprehensive plan approved in 1994 and amended in 2018.

Therefore, we respectfully encourage and request the Planning Commission and the Town Council of Scottsville to deny these special use permits.
