Today, we should have been waking up to the aftermath of Scotland's Independence Day celebrations. A day which would have created new special memories to add to the richness of the experience of being part of the whole Yes movement. A day which would have marked an end, and a beginning.
Sadly, it was not to be. It is fitting that we celebrate the positive, aspirational Yes campaign more than we mourn its ultimate failure. It is proper that we cling to the spirit of that campaign. It is right that we keep it alive.
But now we must look to the future. The flame that burned so brightly then must ignite a new drive towards the goal of restoring our nation's rightful constitutional status. The memory of the Yes movement, and the thought of what might have been, must inspire a renewed effort to bring our government home.
This will mean persuading more people in Scotland of the fundamental rightness of our cause. They are ready to be persuaded. It will also require that we build support for a second referendum. Nicola Sturgeon has made it clear that the question of a new vote on independence is a matter for the people, not the politicians. It is up to us.
The British establishment will certainly do everything in its not inconsiderable power to prevent the people of Scotland ever again having a say on the future of our nation. We must affirm and defend our right of self-determination in order to keep open our democratic, lawful, peaceful path to independence.
For Scotland. For Scotland's beautiful dream. For Scotland's future. Please sign and share.
