Thank you for taking the time to sign the petition to the Scottish Government demanding they step in and halt the sale of Loch Lomond's southern lands. Already you will understand the importance of this.
Can I urge you to keep sharing, and shouting about this because few politicians will. Why? They are afraid. None of them wants to upset apple-carts for a whole range of reasons, whether they be in the government or opposition, but this is one apple-cart that has to be upset.
This sale has proceeded in the dark. It remains in the dark.
It was pushed through to balance Scottish Enterprise's books, not as a developmental project. It has landed in the hands of a company that will end up owning half of Balloch and more. And crucially the company is only putting in for a Planning Permission in Principle.
As Scottish Enterprise refuse point blank to detail anything: the price, the list of bidders, nor the terms of an instrument called The Exclusivity Agreement, which locks all other parties out and forces them not to divulge information (yes, this is a government quango we are talking about, selling public land!) then we have here what can only be described as a closed deal sell off - not a development.
If Flamingoland get their Planning Permission in Principle, then we can safely assume the deal is deemed done and the sale goes through.
This means, without divulging ANY DETAILS that really matter, a sale of sensitive public land on Loch Lomondside has gone ahead, taking from the public's hands, an ancient woodland, a sandy beach, a riverside walk and acres of parkland as well control of Loch Lomond's prime port and location. Given the asking price of land nearby, you can reckon that the new owners will have £40 million worth of land...to do as they please when they please.
This is a national outrage and a scandal and the first step is to halt this sale and demand the government thinks again, and does not sell this land but leases it to responsible, sensible, sensitive project enablers.
Or indeed leave large parts of it unmolested and free of commercial exploitation. All of that can be argued. Right now we need to demand this unaccountable sale is halted immediately.
Please let your friends know, this isn't about stopping progress, this is about being accountable, and keeping Loch Lomond's public lands in public hands.
And thank you. Your voice matters, your input matters. Without it, power goes on its own path unhindered, and that cannot be right when we are talking about Scotland's treasures and the future of our land and who owns it.
