We are delighted to show you a video of a priceless, wildcat youngster born this year in the Clashindarroch. This is an incredibly important find. The camera was set for 8 weeks and this is the only glimpse we got of what is one of the rarest kittens in the world. Just look at the perfectly ringed blunt tail and clear leg stripes which are key diagnostic features of the Scottish wildcat. This footage has given us all even more motivation to save the wildcat in the wild, where it belongs.
This young cat which is estimated to be 14 weeks old is clear evidence that the Scottish wildcat is still breeding in the wild and casts serious doubt over the governments' claims that it is functionally extinct.
We want this kitten to be able to grow up in peace and have kittens of its own next year and as you all know, destruction of it’s forest home by government agencies is the biggest threat to this happening.
Our team works tirelessly to survey wildcats in the remotest places in Scotland and we are also the only organisation brave enough to hold the government to account over the clear-felling of the Wildcat’s last stronghold.
We will continue to do so until the wildcat is saved.
