Now that lockdown has eased in Scotland, we have been busy with fieldwork but we wanted to update on some recent news. The Mammal Society has recently completed a 'red list' of all mammals in the UK. They have confirmed that the Scottish wildcat is now classed as critically endangered meaning that it is at imminent risk of extinction. We have been stating for the past few years that the wildcat population was in double digits but there has always been a reluctance by the government and the conservation establishment to accept this. The status of being critically endangered has now been ratified and we hope it adds further urgency and weight to efforts to conserve the Scottish wildcat. Wildcat Haven is the only organisation dedicated solely to saving the magnificent wildcat in the wild where it belongs. It deeply saddens us that we are the wildcat's last and only hope, but it also gives us great motivation and we are very determined bunch who won't give up until the wildcat is saved. Remember that without our organisation and your support, the Scottish government would have been able to log the last major population of wildcats in Scotland, without anybody even knowing or objecting.
