Dear All
We are are very pleased to update you on major progress with the Bern Convention Case File. Our legal team have been in regular correspondence with the relevant people at the Bern Convention and yesterday, we were informed that a hearing about the complaints we made is scheduled for the 15 -16th September. The Bureau of the Standing Committee will consider the complaint and the response of the authorities in Strasbourg.
We have alleged that decades of neglect and current logging activities by the Scottish government, has led to the Scottish wildcat becoming the most endangered feline in the world. We are delighted that the government will now be held to account by an independent, international body.
Just to remind everyone, The Bern Convention is a binding international legal instrument in the field of nature conservation, covering most of the natural heritage of the European continent and extending to some States of Africa. Therefore this hearing is a very big deal and we sincerely hope it will be the catalyst for rapid and significant improvements in the way the government acts in regards to the Scottish wildcat.
Getting to this stage has been a monumental task for our whole team and months of diligent research, data collection and drafting of documents has been carried out. We are generating huge momentum for this cause and support is growing all the time which gives us all great motivation.
We rely entirely on your donations to continue our work, so if you can spare the funds in these difficult times, then please consider donating by text.
