We call on the Scottish Government to take care homes under public control. 

Covid19’s horrific toll on the elderly in private care home sector has demonstrated more than ever that a radical overhaul of the social care sector is needed. For too long care homes have been run by private firms where profits have come before care. 

Care homes should be nationalised to improve and maintain a national standard of residential and nursing home care. Private care homes should be taken into public ownership to maintain social care protection.
The NCS should integrate with the National Health Service with equitable pay and career structures for staff, high quality training and appropriate forms of oversight. This would ensure that all those in need have access to high quality domiciliary or residential care in their local community free at the point of delivery.
