My son Keith Carly Findlay is 29 years of age and has been in hospital in Forth Valley Royal Hospital for 18 months. 
He has a condition known as MITOCHONDRION DISORDER  This is a DEGENERATIVE DISORDER. He is in the hospital because his last placement broke down and is awaiting a residential placement. He has a Welfare Guardianship Order and it was sourced that the ONLY available placement would be in Cambuslang (South Lanarkshire) and that placement has after 6 months of trying to formulate a care plan has decided that they WOULD NOT be able to facilitate the placement for him because they do not have the required Mental Health personnel on board. My son needs to have at least a District Nurse to come in at least once daily to administer Anti seizure medication in his pump and also to monitor his health and at present this placement which is the only one available to him in Scotland is struggling to know how they will cope.                                                                                                   Surely Mental Health Resources and District Nurses should be made available to them if and when required 24/7.

At present in Scotland there is such a big gap between residential placements and Nursing Placement and the Age bracket jumps from 18-55 to over 65’s. My son is only 29 years of age with a degenerative condition.

This is people’s live’s we are talking about. This is 2021 and having people in Hospital for 18 months plus while waiting to sort out a placement because DISTRICT NURSES DON’T TAKE ON LONG TERM CASES OR BECAUSE CARE SETTINGS DO NOT PROVIDE MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES WHEN REQUIRED IS SCANDALOUS IN THIS DAY AND AGE.

My son has a Neurological Degenerative Disorder and requires this care in order to live.

Why can he not live out his young life with the dignity he so deserves.

Picking up any infection can prove to be traumatic and shortening his life even further.
