Give children with disabilities the support they need to succeed in school.

Scotland has a policy of inclusion in mainstream schools for most children with disabilities. For many children there is no other option as special schools are closed or have their places cut.

These children can succeed but need support to do so. For my son - who has autism - school can be noisy and overwhelming. He needs someone who can work with him closely and recognise when he's not coping.

He’s not alone. Other children need help with language. Children that need 1:1 support are being placed in large classes and are unable to learn. And teachers are struggling without their support staff to meet these children's needs.

It is not sustainable to place children with additional support needs in mainstream schools and then cut their support.

The Scottish Government has a policy called Getting It Right For Every Child. But they are not implementing that policy.

Children are struggling and being excluded, affecting them and their parents' lives. Parents like me are unable to work as their children are excluded from school.

My son and many other children like him have the same right to an education as any other child.

The Scottish Government should stop treating our children like 2nd class citizens and put the support in place so inclusion can truly succeed and Getting It Right For Every Child can become a reality.
