CAR PARK SHARKS abuse and SHARING OF CCTV. And DISCLOSRE OF PERSONAL DATA BY DVLA FOR £££
The Issue
Many of you will have fallen victim to less than scrupulous methods to ‘extort’ parking fines on behalf of the private sector.
Parking companies can pay DVLA for personal information including ones name and address. The source of the information is often from CCTV surveillance owned and operated by the client for whom the Parking Company works.
Companies disclose (sell?) CCTV to Parking Firms in the Private Sector (Asda, Tesco, Rwtail Parks etc. This is unacceptable!
DVLA provide details of addresses (for a fee) to companies often of worrying reputation.
Parking companies interpret the law and then bully identified vehicle ‘keepers’, with an awareness of the keeper’s address.
The above represents a litany of travesties and a quagmire which entraps less savvy (possibly elderly) and vulnerable individuals.
The fees are wholly out of proportion to the time spent in the car park. The letters are intimidating and often wrong.
There is a clear conflict with the safeguards and spirit of protection of personal data.
