Save Jedburgh’s Iconic Architecture

The Issue

To save this building from being demolished, as proposed by Scottish Borders Council and the Scottish Executive.

This is a four-storey, C-listed building, which sits on the corner of Jedburgh’s High street, and is a fantastic example of 16th Century Revival Architecture.
It is an iconic part of Jedburgh’s history, sitting within a conservation area, in the famous Georgian square.

Unfortunately, due to neglect -the building is now in urgent danger, falling masonry and remedial work has lead to the building now being shrouded in scaffolding.

Unjust overreactions by Scottish Borders Council and the Scottish Executive has resulted in the decision to demolish.

After several structural surveys, it has come to light that the building is repairable, and not in any imminent danger of collapse.

The people of Jedburgh, and lovers of historical architecture have not had the opportunity to save this building due to misinformation circulated by Scottish Borders Council and the media.

Engineers reports have shown only lighter renovation works are required to restore this building to its former glory.

The cost of renovation would be significantly less than the demolition and reinstatement and would protect Jedburgh’s historical town centre for future generations.
