SAVE THE BEES

Dear Scott Pruitt,
We are reaching out to you to help save the bees by prohibiting the use of neonicotinoid pesticides while bees are present. While they might appear to be small and insignificant their impact is vital for human life. These tiny creatures are essential to food production due to their ability to pollinate crops. In fact, scientists predicted that if all bees were to disappear today the human population would only survive four more years. Not only would we suffer but our economy would suffer too. Honeybee agriculture is valued over $14 billion per year to the U.S. However there is a solution to the declining bee population problem.
Neonicotinoids are harmful insecticides that account for roughly 25% of all insecticide use. The decline of annual honey production between 2000 and 2011 went from one third from 221 million to 148 million pounds with increased neonicotinoids use in the United States. With the removal of neonicotinoids, we would save at least 500 bees a day, per beehive in businesses using these pesticides. Also, Banning neonicotinoids would increase honey production by more than 1/3 its total. In closing we hope you are as worried about this pressing issue as we are and you will take our solution into consideration.
Sincerely, environmentalists Kennedy Feindt and Becca Lewis
