Stop Peter Dutton donating armoured vehicles to the Indonesian military

Stop Peter Dutton donating armoured vehicles to the Indonesian military
The issue
In early September Defence Minister Peter Dutton visited Jakarta and made two disturbing announcements.
He said Australia was going to donate 15 armoured military vehicles to the Indonesian Defence Minister Prabowo Subianto.
He also said that Australia was going to invite Indonesian soldiers to Duntroon and other Australian facilities for “joint training”.
These decisions should alarm all Australians as they completely ignore the appalling human rights record of the Indonesian military.
Prabowo Subianto is well known as a person who has engaged in serious violations of human rights.
The New York Times describes him as “A former general who was discharged from the military for breaking the law, violating human rights and disobeying orders.”
The people of West Papua are suffering disgraceful treatment at the hands of the Indonesian military on a daily basis, despite receiving almost no mainstream news coverage in Australia.
We, the undersigned, call on the Prime Minister Scott Morrison to urgently halt the plan to give Prabowo Subianto 15 armoured Bushmaster vehicles until a proper review of the decision can be undertaken.
We also request that Mr Morrison withdraw the invitation to have Indonesian troops train in Australia, given the ongoing allegations against the Indonesian army.
