Ryan Mark started this petition to Scott Morrison (Federal Member for Cook) and

"During the next council meeting on 10th April 2019, City of Swan wants to vote in favour of amendment 176 that will prohibit place of worship in Swan Valley Rural Zone.

But in the same amendment, places of assembly, club premises, community purposes or an exhibition centre will continue to remain “Discretionary”, meaning permissible subject to council approval. The council wants to protect the land from being used for non-viticultural use but they have singled out place of worship alone. Do the other uses not cause the same land to be used for non-viticulture purpose?

The City of Swan had provided their consent to a large sub-division of big parcel of land in the same zone and reports indicate that major portions of this land has not been used for viticulture for the last 30 - 40 years and in future also will not be suitable for viticulture as suggested by experts in areas of agriculture, viticulture. Ironically from the land which is currently used for viticulture, hundreds of acres of vines are being removed because in the words of some councillors growing grapes is not a viable proposal any more and all vineyard owners are subsidizing their incomes by indulging in other mixed use activities like Pilates, conference venues, weddings etc.

We oppose the City of Swan’s proposal to ban Place of Worship within the Swan Valley Rural Zone. It is the basic right of every Australian citizen to be able to practise his or her religious faith and the City of Swan has decided to take this right away from their rate payers and the community.

If you feel that the council should not pass this amendment, please sign this petition to the Australian PM, WA premier, WA planning minister and the mayor of City of Swan.

City of Swan to not support amendment 176 or ban any development related to religious places.
