Climate change is the biggest threat that humanity faces. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's report forecasts a bleak future with temperatures increasing 1.5 degrees by 2030 if countries don't take more action.  Australia's future will be one of increased and more intense bushfires, droughts, floods and other weather based disasters.  And many countries will suffer much more.

The UN report in July 2021 found that Australia was last out of a group of 176 UN member countries in taking climate action. This year, Australia ranked among the top three countries for exported greenhouse gas emissions per capita and among the top 10 nations for per capita fossil fuel use.

Scott Morrison is our global representative.  He needs to attend COP26 and be held accountable on a global level for the climate actions of Australia. Sending anyone else is a cop out. As the leader of our country, Scott Morrison needs to show that he cares about climate change.  If he believes that our targets are sufficient, if he believes that the investment in technology is the route to keep our emissions down and if he believes that Australia can continue to invest in coal and gas while avoiding climate disaster, then he needs to take the message to Glasgow for the COP26 meeting.

Sending a representative reeks of avoidance, of cowardice and also sends a message that our climate policy is not a high priority for this government.  

Scott Morrison - you need to be accountable to Australia and the rest of the world for our plan "to reduce our carbon emissions to Net Zero as soon as possible".  Please attend the COP26 conference in person, and don't send a representative.
