Investigate NSW Police for not taking the statement of Porter's alleged victim

Investigate NSW Police for not taking the statement of Porter's alleged victim
The issue
On 12/04/21 it was revealed in an article from The Guardian that New South Wales Police rejected an offer from South Australia Police to take the statement of Christian Porter's alleged rape victim.
The article also confirms other facts that we already know regarding New South Wales Police's refusal to take a statement from Porter's alleged victim. We know New South Wales Police rejected the following opportunities to take a statement.
- They refused to take the statement via Skype
- They refused the offer from South Australia police to take the statement
- Travel to South Australia to take the statement was refused due to COVID
We are demanding an independent and transparent inquiry, with full authority to subpoena documents and witnesses to determine why New South Wales Police were unable to take a statement from Christian Porter's alleged rape victim.
Rape allegations must be taken seriously. The actions of New South Wales Police in relation to obtaining a statement from Porter's accuser are either incompetent and negligent or deliberate political interference. An investigation must find out which is the case so those involved can be charged accordingly.
Specifically, an investigation should look at but certainly not be limited to the following:
- Why South Australia Police were not able to take a statement on behalf of New South Wales Police?
- Why did New South Wales police refuse to take the statement via Skype?
- Why was travel refused to New South Wales officers planning to travel to South Australia to take a statement? Despite COVID restrictions, investigating an alleged rape is clearly essential.
- Any evidence of political interference.
- If the inability to take a statement was purely incompetence rather than deliberate, then an inquiry should present a list of recommendations for NSW Police to prevent this from happening again.
- A list of Officers and Officials who should be charged with perverting the course of justice. Even if there was no political interference, the Officers involved with this case have clearly perverted the course of justice by failing to take a statement from Porter's accuser - despite having clear opportunities to do so.
We are calling upon either Scott Morrison, Gladys Berejiklian or NSW Police Commissioner Michael Fuller to launch this independent inquiry.
Justice was not done here. Regardless of whether Christian Porter is guilty or innocent of these allegations, they were not handled appropriately by New South Wales Police.
