Our politicians are so grossly out of touch this 4 week challenge will show them what living life as a Jobseeker Recipient is really like, learn in real time, real life, a modern day reality check these ministers are desperately in need of.
Jobseeker payment even with its increase is still remains UNVIABLE UNACCEPTABLE AND QUITE FRANKLY INHUMANE it is not enough for a person to live and survive off especially when one also has their Rent, Mortgage, Electric, Gas, Medical, Transport, Basic Food Necessities including everyday general living expenses. $50 fortnightly increase is not enough. The increase needs to be increased.
This was my road to becoming a Jobseeker recipient. December 17th 2019 my place of employment Jenolan Caves was evacuated due to the bushfires when they did finally reopen 4 days later it closed again this time due to flooding and following shortly after covid-19. Initially i lived from utilising all employment leave entitlements to then living from my savings and after decimating any and all savings i was approved and received assistance in the form of Disaster Recovery Relief Allowance to then moved to and becoming Jobseeker Recipient. I am 40, single, never held a license. My rent $540 fortnightly, $20 minimum spend per Opal Top Up, $50 monthly Telstra Recharge including Data in order to actively search for employment. This is before food and medication. A child abuse survivor [5yrs old]. February 2006 was the very last point of contact i had with any surviving family members/relatives. After the passing of my grandmother late February 2006 i was completely made an outcast from every family member/relative. Ostracised, estranged and utterly abandoned left to fend the rest of my life by myself. In every literal sense of the word i've absolutely zero, no one at all i can ask their help and nobody to ask can you lend me a hand. I am petrified i will soon become a part of homeless statistics. How do you honestly expect this is anything but a direct route to homelessness?
