I’m desperately worried for Kopika and Tharunicaa. Nine months after a medical report raised serious concerns about the harm our government is doing to our beautiful Biloela bubs in detention, I’ve had to do something I never imagined I’d have to. I’ve lodged a complaint with Victorian Child Protection.

Please, can you e-mail Immigration Minister David Coleman now?

I knew Priya and Nades in Biloela. I know what loving, responsible parents they are. In Biloela, Kopika and Tharunicaa were just two happy, healthy Australian-born kids.

Kopika had a beautiful little smile and loved playing and singing with her playgroup friends. Tharunicaa was a happy, inquisitive baby who adored mashed avocado.

Now, limited sunlight and restricted fresh food have left Tharunicaa with serious dental problems that stop her from eating. She needs surgery. She’s not even two.

Four-year-old Kopika was denied access to playgroup for her first 14 months in detention. She shows attachment disruption and behavioural disturbance. Sometimes, she wakes in the night, screaming.

I know how distressing it is to read all this. But when you e-mail Mr Coleman, I need you to stay calm and respectful, as we have always done. Please take a moment to personalise your e-mail and explain in your own words why this matters to you.

Please, tell Mr Coleman that 15 months is enough. Tell him that you know that the safety of these Australian-born kids rests in his hands.

Tell him it’s time to put politics aside. Tell him it’s time to get these kids and their loving Mum and Dad back to Biloela, where they are loved and wanted.
