Ban importation of Angora-based products in Australia

Angora wool is harvested from the fur of an angora goat, angora cat but most commonly from the angora rabbit.

The angora rabbit is bred to "farmed". They are tied to wooden boards, stretched out with their legs bound and rapidly sheared or plucked - a tortourous affair for a prey animal - all for their fur and then thrown back into a cage with no companion, decent food or medical care for any injuries sustained, sometimes screaming in agony or scared stiffless. Once they've outlived their usefulness they are killed. Their whole lives are confined to a re-occuring ordeal of loneliness, pain and suffering.

China is by far the world's biggest producer of angora – 90 per cent of the world's angora originates there. There are no penalties for the abuse of animals on farms and no standards to regulate the treatment of animals in China. The truth is that as long as shoppers in the Western world continue to buy angora hats, socks, scarves and other items, farmers will continue to profit from torturing rabbits.

It's time to act. If you see angora-based products being sold, do not buy them. Complain to the store's management and ask about its origin. Ensure you share this information with your friends and family so they too are aware of the origin of angora, along with the suffering and pain it inflicts on the animals it is harvested from.

Sign this petition so we can make a difference and ask our government to ban the importation of angora products.
