It's official. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have confirmed in a statement last week that Iran have exceeded the uranium stockpile limit of 300kg set by the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). The international watchdog has called for an emergency meeting to be held on July 10th with other signatories of the deal to discuss a way forward.

Let's be clear; this is not an effort to attain nuclear weapons, or an immediate threat as much of the media would have you believe. Iran's decision to exceed their limits is an act of deterrence in response to United States military aggression and economic sanctions. Spokesmen from Iran have stated that the stockpile breach would be reversible 'within hours' in exchange for relief from US sanctions, which are largely causing civilian suffering. Iran is calling for deescalation here, and any rational state would do the same if put in their position.

In other news, the petition has gained significant momentum with over 1,000 signatures in 72 hours, and an endorsement from Australians for War Powers Reform, a foreign policy reform campaign led by former Secretary for Defence, Paul Barratt AO. I highly encourage you follow or join the campaign at http://www.warpowersreform.org.au/

My deepest thanks to all who have signed, shared and donated so far - and if you haven't, please consider sharing the petition or contributing as little as a dollar so we can reach more people and tell parliament: Australia will not support a war in Iran.
