Not once have I ever receive an acknowledgement, let alone an apology from PM Morrison or Treasurer Frydenberg, in response to this petition which almost 25000 of you signed. 

Dear Supporters

It's been three long, and unprecedented (there's that word again) months since I shared an update with you all. 

Who would have thought back at the end of February, when Treasurer Josh Frydenberg mocked the idea of a wellness budget, that in a few short weeks the wellness of the nation would become the government's primary concern, if only for a couple of months.

Who could have predicted media channels and even some of the government's harshest critics would be lauding Morrison and Frydenberg for their "almost socialist" style stimulus package? Who could have predicted that the Treasurer, just a short few weeks after he publicly ridiculed  "incense, meditation mats and robes" would be announcing a $130billion wage subsidy? And then of course who would have predicted a few weeks later our 'esteemed' Treasurer would announce a miscalculation of Jobkeeker to the tune of $60billion? (Actually I did, because it was clear to anyone awake to the LNP that they never intended on spending $130billion in the first place).

Today, as Australia emerges from (hopefully) the worst of the Covid pandemic - health-wise anyway - we find ourselves back to divisive politics, and the LNP returning to business as usual. Problem is back in February Sportsrorts and the PM's Hawaiian holidays were fresh in the public's mind and his popularity was waning. As of now Scott Morrison is enjoying an uptick in the polls because mainstream painted a picture of a hero Prime Minister who saved Australia from the worst ravages of the coronavirus. Yes I know, the National Cabinet and the Premiers had a lot to do with that, but don't let facts get in the way of good PR. 

This brings me very neatly to why I'm sending this update.

Australian politics is in dire straits. We have a government whose only objective is gaining power, and holding onto it at any cost. We have a government that seeks to divide us. We have a media machine that facilitates the government's "divide and conquer" agenda. We have a government. and media, that will blame the country's woes on anyone, or everyone else - from immigrants to the marginalised to the opposition - rather than actually working to progress the country. We have a party in government whose litany of scandals and corruption hardly gets a mention in mainstream media. We have a country facing recession with a government that doesn't seem to have a plan to get us through it.

I don't know about you but I can't stay angry from the sidelines any longer. That's why I've launched a Crowdfunding campaign to #reclaimthenews, or in other words raise funds for an advertising and information campaign to change the hearts and minds of those who only get their news from mainstream media. You know who I'm talking about here; friends and neighbours who say "wow Scotty did such a great job getting us through the pandemic" despite the Ruby Princess, "going to the footy" and leaving millions out of the wage subsidy etc etc.
