We, The Richies, believe that the 22nd of February 2022 (22/2/22), should be officially named Richie Benaud Day in Australia and throughout the cricket world. Richie contributed so much to the sport of cricket as both a player and commentator, he changed the game with his aggressive captaincy and he left a legacy on the cricket community, the likes of which will never be experienced again. The Richies were formed to pay tribute to Richie Benaud on Day 2 of each test cricket match held in Australia, where we regularly have more than 1000 'Richies' across the summer that dress in cream suits with wigs and microphones to impersonate the legend himself. With cricket easily ranked as one of the most popular sports on the planet, and an iconic part of the Australian summer, we believe the great man deserves great recognition.
