The Issue
-In these often confusing and somewhat scary times in the world, we try and find ways to come together to forget the daily problems we face and we look for positive outlets. Whether it’s a hobby, a project, or just finding people to hang out with while being alone or stuck at home.
-WWE Champions is one of those outlets. A mobile game with licensing for a world-renowned product that provides entertainment without leaving your house. A game with a social following that allows you to join teams of 100 people that share your hobbies and interests. An opportunity to build lifelong friendships despite the struggles and physical limitations of today. This is a game that many of us have enjoyed playing for well over 3 years now.
-Over the last several months, this “gacha” style game has made many changes that have drastically affected the health and wellbeing of the community, and the push towards pure pay to play has leaped to the forefront. Some of the smaller changes have made it impossible to be competitive without spending copious amounts of real money. We have a very large list of issues and reasonable requests, but only a few of the bigger issues are listed below as this is not meant to be all encompassing here.
-Return on investment for purchases in-game has dropped significantly as of late and there is still no guaranteed system in place to get a specific superstar even if thousands of dollars are spent in that pursuit. Even though the significant portion of the gaming community can’t and would never spend that much, those that can afford to do so are being taken advantage of with this current system. The Champions Community has many ideas on how to improve this system and are open to discussions and feedback on this.
-New “VIP” packages are rolled out to nickel and dime the people supporting them with their hard-earned money. There isn’t even an option to to subscribe at the highest level with accumulative rewards for the tiers below it. Instead, to be competitive, you simply must purchase each and every one of them at varying price points with limited value as there are almost no additional benefits or special tours that come along with each membership. For example, if you purchase the Gold DX Elite Pass membership, you should receive the silver and bronze memberships and items with it as well. Currently, you must buy each membership individually at $50, $20, and $10 respectively each month! Additionally, three other VIP memberships have been added that all must be purchased separately as well and the value of these memberships don’t hold up either now. The Manager Pass at $25, Strap Up Pass at $10, and Here Comes The Money Pass at $8 each month and again, none of these stack together. This is a total of $123 dollars to purchase all six passes PER MONTH! How many more passes will be added in the next year to purchase all separately as well to continue to stay extremely competitive?
-With loot odds finally being published, we thought this would be a step in the right direction. But the only odds published are the odds to pull something out of each tier. An example for the odds of 1 pull in the current Mega Loot:
--Featured - 1.09% with 46 options
--Mega Rare - 2.48% with 27 options
--Rare - 30.34% with 32 options
--Common - 66.09% with 21 options
-Each pool may contain up to 50 or more options within it, however, it has been proven that the options within each tier pool are not split equally and are heavily skewed towards the lowest rarity. Everything is hidden to mislead the consumer and this is intentionally deceptive. The specific odds for each option within each pool needs to be clearly listed and identified so that the community knows and can make informed purchasing decisions.
-Game bugs that have been around since the launch of the game still remain and with each update new ones are found, and the constant drive to push out new content over fixing the current content has become extremely prevalent as of late. A massive list of game bugs has been sent to the Community Manager several times, yet the information never seems to be fully addressed or acknowledged and then a new game feature is implemented and again takes priority. There is a solid list of items that need to be prioritized and fixed before releasing new features. We expect a playable game and a company that works to correct reported game bugs to enhance the playing experience of the users.
-The Community Manager we are given to pass along information is often crass, and despite being a decent person, is rarely able to take into account the customer’s point of view, even with a large variety of community leaders passing it along in every appropriate venue available. A CM that’s a company man with only profit at the forefront, similar to some of his peers and superiors, who creates barriers to talk with game developers and other game representatives. Despite attempts to reach out to the Community Manager to explain the reasoning behind these issues and what effective change is needed to improve, these requests have been ignored and swept away as all previous attempts have. This is another olive branch rejected for internal data of what the company wants, over what the community has expressed and wants to see.
-The community understands that as a business putting out a once enjoyable product, that profit must be taken into consideration. However, monetizing every portion of the game has put some in a position of paying to be in a social group that wants to excel. Even when those players put in the time and effort towards those goals, the final milestones are placed behind a paywall that can’t be overcome without a large expendable income. The community wants a path to completion for our F2P (free to play) friends, while also getting a real value for dollars paid, and the expectation of “you get what you paid for”.
-Too many times in the last several months have players not received purchased items, and been batted back and forth between customer service representatives with Scopely and their mobile store provider. “Apple said I need to come to Scopely”, “Scopely said I have to go to Apple”, for up to hundreds of dollars in purchases, which once they aren’t available in-game, are brushed aside with an apology and no path toward a resolution. This is frankly unacceptable.
-We are asking you all to sign this petition to #MakeWWEChampionsBetter. We hope the executives, board of directors, and investors see that a happy customer is a returning customer. We want real and meaningful change so that the community stays active for years to come. We hope to see an established line of meaningful communication put in place with community leaders together with multiple members of the Scopely team in regularly scheduled and set meeting times to help facilitate better relationships and share ideas and feedback. We hope these unfriendly customer practices come to a halt, and more importantly, that as a community we can have fun again with our friends and be competitive with our peers regardless of wallet size. We invite you all to sign this petition to show your support, and join the game-wide spending ban with us until we see meaningful changes made and #MakeWWEChampionsBetter.
Sincerely,
The WWE Champions Community
