Change hair policy in Christ the King Parish School in Louisiana
The Issue
Christ the King Parish School in Louisiana instituted a new rule that prohibits students from wearing extensions or fake hair. A young African American girl was removed from school because she wore braids which in their eyes count as extensions. This rule directly effects every young African American girl at the school. Most of the students who wear braids or some type of extensions are African American. This rule is a discrimination based on race. Braids are apart of the African and African American culture. African American women wear there hair in braids to protect there natural hair. The school made this rule knowing that it would only effect African American girls.
