Support this petition because many students in the school district of Palm Beach County agree that the current dress codes in place seem to support objectification of our bodies. We are told that we need to leave, alter attire, or sit in ISS all day which is basically denying our education because apparently not meeting someone else’s standards can cause a distraction. As young adults, we should not be taught that it's okay for other people to control our bodies. We understand there is a need for professionalism in a school environment to prepare us for our futures, but we can't reach our future if we are denied education based on something as small as a tank top. We are more than distractions, and we should not be demeaned or devalued because of personal choices we make. What we are taught at this age is what we will apply to our individual futures, as well as the future of our generation and generations to come. It is not okay to teach young people that other people can control their bodies and that they should change themselves to meet other peoples standards. Individuality is an important trait and current dress codes don't give us the freedom to express our individuality as much as we would like. We would like to see these issues be addressed as well as some alterations made to the current dress codes.
