The Fairfax County School Board will be voting to adopt the recent FLECAC recommendations to the Family Life Education curriculum.
This includes the very controversial recommendation to remove all occurrences of "biological sex" and using "assigned at birth", which promotes a narrative that sex is not inborn, but rather decided upon by someone else to make a decision and assign it to the baby when it is born.
Also controversial is the recommendation to remove "Clergy" from their list of trusted adults. This is just one more in a line of changes to remove references of religion from the curriculum. Previously, they added teaching of the non discrimination groups which FCPS includes in their policy, but left out "religion" from the non discrimination traits they teach kids in FLE. "Clergy" is just one more attack of the committee and school board to belittle religion and the faith of our children. Kids need to know if they have questions or issues, that Clergy is among the trusted adults they can turn to for help.
Also modified is their statement on abstinence, removing that it is 100% effective of preventing sexual transmission of STDs. One more attack on abstinence based sex education.
As well as controversial teaching about Pre-exposure Prophylaxis , a drug regimen designed for those who are engaged in sexual conduct that has a high risk of spreading HIV. They don't include the risks of this drug, and gives a false notion that if they use it they will be safe. This will encourage increased risky behavior using a drug which they are not told of the risks it still has at transmitting HIV.

The board meeting starts at 7PM, Thursday June 14, 2018.
Many groups who are against these changes will be wearing green, to represent that science is what is relevant, that biology should be taught to our children, not ideology.
I highly recommend trying to be there to support the speakers, and as a show of support in the auditorium to the school board members so they realize that we are not just a small group of parents, but as this petition shows we are a very large portion of the FCPS community. A very large portion of the FCPS community that is not being represented nor respected by the FLECAC recommendations.
