The community feedback to the FLE changes to remove the phrase "biological sex" from our sex education FLE curriculum, and other highly controversial changes, has come back overwhelmingly against the recommended changes.
Despite the overwhelming majority of parents opposed to the changes, the majority school board members decided to ignore the parents and approve the highly controversial changes against the wishes of parents.
The contrast between the FLECAC vote on the changes, and the parental feedback on the changes, shows that the FLECAC is aligned against the parental community in our county. State guidelines require the Community Involvement Team to show evidence of based based community representation. Our team does not. This is how the board is able to approve highly controversial, highly opposed materials and pass them against the will of the parents. They show no respect, concern or willingness to allow parents and the community to impact what goes into our sex education curriculum.
What recourse do we have against a lawless School Board that intentionally subverts state guidelines for FLE Community Involvement requirements? What recourse do we have when they solicit community feedback, but completely ignores the comments that go from over 80% opposed, to near 100% opposed to changes, but yet vote their own will over the parents will?
As parents, we should be outraged. Keep signing. Write the School Board voicing your outrage that they are willfully subverting representative community involvement in the development of the FLE guidelines. Let them know our outrage that time we as parents spent writing our feedback to the recommendations was in vain, because they don't allow our feedback and opinions to impact their vote.
