Student rights: being denied access to a washroom and denied wellness walks
Students of Alexander Mackenzie High School are being denied the rights of bathroom breaks in the AM. The school has decided to LOCK bathroom doors which doesn’t allow students to use them.
Students are being denied the rights to mental wellness walks with their classes supervised by teachers. Walking after every 60 minutes of sitting helps to undo the damage that staying still in one spot had, especially since students are EXPECTED to sit in a classroom for 2 hours and 30 minutes. It is important for students to take a walk as it increases efficiency and productivity.
Being denied these rights as a student makes me feel as if I am in a prison. Especially after asking to go to the washroom and have a teacher tell me I can ONLY take 5 minutes otherwise I would get sent to the office. It takes me 5 minutes to get to the washroom and 5 minutes back. Personally I do not think that it is fair for the school to be doing this to us. Please sign the petition to make a change.
