In the light of recent events, more and more attention has been raised to BLM (Black Lives Matter) and the racial injustices which have been systematically oppressing POCs. George Washington was a slave owner and his racism is constantly underplayed in the education system, as he perpetuated the enslavement and dehumanization of Black people.

Scheels, specifically the branch located at The Colony, Texas, should do more to help create a more inclusive environment and understand the message that keeping up a statue of George Washington can send. While George Washington is well regarded as a general and as the first president, he was also a terrible person and shouldn’t be glamorized. 

Please consider removing and replacing the statue with another historical figure (preferably a civil rights activist) to show solidarity to the movement. Thank you for your time ♡
