SCCPSS parents against digital curriculum and testing
SCCPSS parents against digital curriculum and testing
The Issue
Young children learn best with paper and pencil, especially at the elementary level where handwriting, drawing, and physical interaction with materials support learning. On paper, kids can easily show their work in math, circle answers, cross things out, and go back to check their thinking; skills that are harder to do smoothly on a computer. Reading on paper also helps young students focus better and understand what they read, since screens can be more distracting and tiring for developing eyes. Not every family has the same access to computers at home, so testing on paper is more fair and doesn't accidentally test how well a child can use a keyboard or mouse instead of what they actually know. For these reasons, we're asking the school to offer paper testing for math and reading in elementary grades.
I highly recommend everyone send your district rep an email as well as signing this petition.
