Whitby Beach Needs Safe Access for Dog Owners - limits need reverting to 2017 boundary

Dog owners in Whitby were shocked to find on 1-5-18 that the seasonal dog ban on Whitby West beach had been extended to the end of the beach huts, forcing them to use a set of steps that are slimy, steep and incomplete. This access leads onto rocks meaning that anyone who is less than agile and 100% fit is finding them unsafe to use. Some are putting their safety at risk trying, others are unable to go on the beach now. We believe the extension to be unnecessary, unsafe and discriminatory. The consultation cited as justification was on a borough-wide document in which this change was buried and unclear. Those affected the most were completely unaware of either the consultation or the proposed extension. We therefore consider it undemocratic.

We request a return to the 2017 limit which allowed plenty of dog-free, prime beach for users and safe access to a small area for dog owners too.
