Scarborough needs an indoor skatepark

The Issue

In a place like Scarborough, we are very fortunate to be blessed with a great skatepark in an otherwise flawless spot.

Over the many years the locals of Scarborough have spent conversing about skateparks, the general topic is that there is a desperate need for an indoor facility in Scarborough.

In the summer, Hairy Bobs Skatepark is a beautiful place to be.

However, the main flaw is that we are based on the east coast of England, where it rains 9 months out of the year, and the skatepark is set right next to the sea.

This, in turn, brings sea fret into the skatepark and immediately dampens the skatepark, rendering it useless, and outright dangerous to even attempt using the park in that state.

This also hinders skateboarders’ progress as it is impossible to skate anywhere that is wet or deemed unusable.

Younger skateboarders are more at risk of hurting themselves as they are learning, due to the lack of skateable spots and not having the experience of learning gradually.

With the sudden rise of popularity in extreme sports over the recent years, in part due to the Olympic Games’ inclusion of skateboarding in the upcoming games, indoor facilities have started to appear all over the globe, giving riders the chance to hone their talents and learn the etiquette.

This is why the skateboarders of Scarborough desperately need an indoor skatepark.
