Culclasure Farm Tract, LLC is proposing to build a mining operation in Calhoun County adjacent to Horsefeathers Lane in the Saint Matthews/Swansea areas of South Carolina. This addition to the community will cause more problems to the area than it will provide opportunities for advancement. 

This is a small, rural community with acres of forest and wildlife, and land for our families to enjoy. If DHEC and the county decide to approve this mining application, the environment will be severely and negatively impacted in the following ways. First, there is the noise and air pollution to consider with such an establishment in our area. Second, the construction would displace all of the wildlife contained in 70 acres of land. This wildlife includes, but is not limited to: deer, beavers, coyotes, foxes, and wild pigs. This can have serious repercussions on the ecosystem, and add to the dangers of driving the roads. Third, the installation of such an operation as this would cause property value to deteriorate for the residents as well as decreasing our quality of life, while raising taxes to our county and surrounding counties as well. Additionally, this is a county maintained road that could not handle the amount of use a full scale mining operation would require after all subsequent road work is completed. Fourth, most residents enjoy the use of wells as a water source, and the implementation of this project would most likely contaminate the surrounding waters, rendering our drinking water unsafe. Fifth, in addition to enjoying well water, most of our residents in the area take part in many types of outdoor recreation, including but not limited to: dirt biking, four wheeling, walking/hiking, hunting, and fishing. These activities would be unsafe to participate in with an industrial mining operation in close proximity.

This is a broad overview of the negative impact our community would endure if Culclasure Farm Tract, LLC was allowed to build. Please help us by standing with us, sign our petition to reject this application and save Calhoun County. Thank you!
